Golden Rule # 1, Comfort is always at the top of the list. A comfortable gymnastics leotard should fit in a way that allows a gymnast to move in the full range of motion necessary to accomplish the many different types of gymnastics skills. Remember, young gymnast will be able to focus on learning new gymnastics skills much easier, if her leotard is comfortable.

Golden Rule # 2, Proper Fit. A leotard that is too tight will not allow freedom of movement and a leotard that is too loose will not offer the necessary support that a gymnasts body will require. And you have to remember that each brand has their own sizing and fit matrix. Keep in mind that leotards are not one size fits all. Proper fit of a new leotard is very important. A gymnast that is a size medium with Brand X may not be same size with Brand Y. It's important to take the required measurement such as hips, waist, chest and girth. To ensure a proper fit refer to that manufacturers sizing guide before making your purchase.

Golden Rule # 3, Type of Material. The type of material used in the construction of your new leotard is paramount. Unlike dancing leotards that are made of cotton. Gymnastics leotards need to wick moisture away from the body in order to keep the gymnast cool and dry during their workouts. The highest quality gymnastics leotards are constructed of a Nylon and Spandex blend that promotes a high degree of moisture management.

Golden Rule # 4, Quality of Construction. A great gymnastics leotard should last for years. This is usually only possible with the use of high quality professional sewing machines and materials. The type of stitch that is required to produce a high quality, long lasting leotard are not usually available with a non-professional sewing machine.

Golden Rule # 5, Style. Looking good is as important as feeling good. Look for leotards that allow your young gymnast to express her own personal style. China Stripped of 2000 Olympic Bronze Medal

According to CNN the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday stripped China of a bronze medal in the women's team event at the 2000 Olympic Games after finding one of the team's athletes was underage.
The United States will be awarded the bronze medal instead, the IOC said in a news release.
The International Ggymnastics Federation in February decided to cancel all results obtained by gymnast Dong Fangxiao at the Sydney, Australia Games. "The FIG conducted an inquiry which showed that the athlete was only 14 years old during the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games," the OIC said. Under FIG qualification rules, athletes must be 16 in the year of the Games in order to compete.
The IOC's executive board on Wednesday decided to reallocate the results of the events that Dong participated in. She had placed sixth in the women's individual floor exercise and seventh in the women's individual vault.
Dong has been disqualified from all the events she participated in, which also included the women's individual uneven bars, the women's individual all-around and the women's individual balance beam.
